What the Crazy Lamp Lady Knows About Sales

I’ve recently discovered the Crazy Lamp Lady on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/CrazyLampLady and on Instagram (@crazylamplady). The pandemic has slowed down my normal thrifting habits just a bit so I am enjoying watching others thrift. 🙂

The lamp lady takes the audience along with her as she finds inventory for resell in her booth and on eBay.

Sometimes she finds things and explains why they have some value. Her taste really isn’t the same as mine, but still, I watch. Sometimes she passes on things I wish she had picked up so I could have seen a little more.

I have seen her Ebay account, but again I’m not in her market. I’m not the prospect she buys inventory to satisfy.

Yet, she fascinates me. I have found something surprising about the Crazy Lamp Lady. She knows a lot about sales!

First, she stays in her lane. What I mean by this is she shops glassware, figurines, and on occasion purses. Her videos never show us the clothes, the furniture, or the books. They are not what she resells. She has narrowed down her offering to meet her prospect’s wants and needs.

Second, she only picks what is in great shape. Passing on things with chips or knicks even if it’s otherwise valuable. She understands true value only exists if what you have to offer is really good. She isn’t trying to get her market to take something less valuable just because it’s a good deal.

Lastly, she always goes through what’s there twice to make sure she hasn’t missed anything. She almost always finds something good on the second look. She approaches it from a different angle. If we do this same thing in our prospecting. Who and what have you missed? We can almost always find something we’ve missed.

I’m appreciating the youtube videos, the virtual thrifting, and I always love a well-thought-out sales approach.
