A Little House

Last week, we talked about making a change and how you may have more time than you think.

This week Earl and I talk about The Little House on Marydell.

I have wanted a tiny house for years. When the small movable backyard sheds started popping up as tiny homes, I wanted one.

She sheds are also pretty appealing, but there’s nothing like a little house.

I don’t know if it’s because I always had a backyard playhouse when I was a little girl or because I like to decorate so much.

Or maybe it was because we had too much to do in our big houses that I was overwhelmed.

But, last year in January, we got a call while traveling back home from a conference about a little house for sale!

It was on Marydell, a road Earl and I have previously owned two other homes on, and the road Earl grew up living on his entire childhood.

I heard my brother-in-law describing to Earl on the phone, and my imagination started to come alive! Built during the 1940s, a woodburning heat source and only four rooms!

I had passed by many times and even visited once as a child.

The conference was in Arizona. There are a lot of miles between Arizona a Kentucky to imagine.

I imagined an English cottage like the one in “The Holiday.”

Earl was a bit more cautious than me. I had imagined perfection, just with a little dust.

Well, I was dead wrong. My imagination had fooled me.

At the same time, I considered giving up since I was so wrong. I just couldn’t give up my dream since we were this close.

So with some convincing, Earl said yes; it’s been a bit of a pain for Earl, and it’s been a source of joy for me.

I’m sharing this with you because I’ve wanted something like this for a long time.

It was not what I had imagined, but in some ways, it’s better because it forced me to have to try harder to make it into something.

That’s what trying and working toward new things will do. It will encourage you to grow and learn and dream.
