Thankful

I thought this week I could share a little secret to increasing both your satisfaction with your sales and your sales volume.

Surprisingly just being intentional with your appreciation toward a sale can work wonders. Now, you may be thinking 🤔 , and of course, I am always thankful. This is just a bit different.

I discovered the beauty in this principle by accident. I had experienced the magic many times, but I had not realized what was making it happen.

The first time I saw it work was early on in my career. I started to see a pattern. In the months that I hit quota early, like before 1/2 way into the month, the next $20,000 in sales or, as I lovingly called it double quota, came in effortlessly and with ease. It felt like magic. My steps were lighter, and if every call and visit had a soundtrack, it would have been of birds singing. I didn’t tighten up or feel the sickness in my stomach of fear. Instead, every call or question I met with thanksgiving for the opportunity to serve instead of the anticipation and fear of no.

I still didn’t recognize the power of being thankful for even the tiniest of sales. I know because soon after a double quota month a month would come when by the 20th of the month I was still at $5000 and at that point, a $500 fax machine was met with an achy, “Oh, that’s nowhere near enough.” Instead of “Wow that’s another $500 toward my bonus.” The soundtrack then would have been thunder and the vision of dark skies.

It’s hard to meet every sale with thanksgiving. It’s not that I’m not thankful for each one. But, there’s an old church hymn that says, “count your blessing one by one” that is how you get to the grandest sales total. You count every call, every quote, and absolutely every sale as a blessing and rejoice in thanksgiving.

I am still practicing this. Sometimes I do great, and other times I look back, and I’ve failed miserably. Sometimes I stroll through the month and others, I drag. Give it a try next time. Instead of overthinking and second-guessing, say “I am so thankful to be one step closer to the goal.”
