On the one hand, this has been an unimaginable year in so many ways. I’m thankful no one could have predicted it because I am glad I had no warning. In my opinion, some things are just better to be taken as they come. Especially, in this case as I could have done nothing differently to prepare.
I have found four things that made 2020 a better year than it would have been without them.
First, I had a vision for 2020 that I found through my goal planning process (ie Vision Board). I had worked hard to envision what I wanted for me, my family, my work, and our home. So when things started to go a little sideways, I found it to be a great comfort to have a place to go to for a visual reminder of what was truly important.
Next, this year I rediscovered essential oils. I love them for the opportunity to get creative. I also had studied some of the benefits of smell. I even had a goal of a home that always smells good and inviting. Essential oils came in as a choice for making my home smell good, added health benefits, an opportunity to be creative and the mood-lifting benefits were amazing.
Third on my list are vintage books. I found several authors that included wise women that shared so much. The fantastic thing about these books was how relevant the information was even today, more than 50 years later. In 2019, I spent a lot of time reading/looking for all the latest & greatest techniques and technology. This year with the help of these books I discovered that real and genuine is always relevant and true. Staying true to your values and caring for others will continue to produce results even in the age of technology.
Last, a solid routine can make any day a better day. Since late October, almost every evening I’ve put the electronics away and pushed out the bad news of the day. Hallmark has provided endless happy endings, and this teapot from Amazon has added easy access to perfect hot chocolate at a minute’s notice.
I hope you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy some down time this holiday season. If you are looking for a great weekend; try putting your vision together for 2021. Maybe read a vintage book, put some essential oils to work, and have a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows of course!
